Paul Walker's legendary orange Toyota Supra up for auction at Fast & Furious
He starred in a spectacular race dodging a train and brought out the colors of the driver of a Ferrari. The orange Toyota Supra that Paul Walker drove in the first installment of Fast & Furious goes on sale in Las Vegas.
It is one of those legendary cars of recent cinema. The orange Toyota Supra driven by Paul Walker in the first installment of the Fast & Furious series goes up for auction. It is offered by Barret & Jackson at their next sale in Las Vegas, June 17-19. And although it is not a Ferrari GTO 250 from the 60s, a Ford GT 40 or a Porsche 917 , it is one of those lots that whets the appetite of certain types of fans.
The nine-movie Fast & Furious saga is a catalog of breathtaking cars. And Brian's Toyota Supra, the character played by Paul Walker, is not the least successful. Among other legendary scenes is Brian's run with Dom, played by Vin Diesel, in which the two miraculously dodge a train .
But perhaps the most memorable, less exciting than the train but very funny, is the duel with the racy driver of a black Ferrari . Walker, with Diesel as co-driver, arrives with his convertible at a traffic light where the sports car, also convertible, is stopped. He stands next to him and tells him that it is a beautiful car, to which the Ferrari driver replies that he could never afford it. Vin Diesel and Walker look at each other, barely say anything, the traffic light opens, both drivers hit hard and, after a risky maneuver, the Toyota leaves the Ferrari behind .
Both sequences are from the first installment of the saga, from 2001. The Supra also appears in the second, 2 Fast 2 Furious, with some modifications, although at present it has been returned to the configuration it had in the first film, a work of personalization undertaken by Eddie Paul at The Shark Shop , in the Californian town of El Segundo.
That includes a Bomex front bumper and side skirts, some hood modifications, and 19-inch Racing Hart M5 wheels from Dazz Motorsport.
But the highlight is the paint job. First of all, the chosen orange color, Lamborghini Diablo Orange Candy . And then the motif that decorates the sides, the Nuclear Gladriador designed by Troy Lee , a renowned custom artist.
Toyota began producing the Supra, derived from the Toyota Celica , in 1978. The Fast & Furious car is of the fourth generation, designed in 1990 by Isao Tsuzuki, and of which between April 1993 and August 2002 11,200 units were sold . With a 2,997 cc engine, it reached 250 km / h, with a 0-100 km / h of 5.4 seconds and had among its distinctive elements the striking rear wing.
Barret & Jackson does not offer an estimate of what the Supra may achieve. The fact that it was driven by Walker, who died shortly after his 40th birthday in an accident behind the wheel of a Porsche Carrera GT , gives it a certain cult car status. Another orange Toyota Supra used by extras at Fast & Furious was auctioned in 2015 for $ 185,000.
