Easy Guide for Beginners to Use Induction Stove

Conventional gas stoves are getting replaced by modern induction stovetops. Gas stoves have been in use for decades, and thus all of us are very much familiar with how to use them. On the other hand, the induction cooktop is a new technology, so many people still find it intimidating and have many questions in mind while using it. This article guides beginners through the right way to use an induction stove.

  1. Choose the Right Cookware-

If you are trying to use old cooking appliances with your induction stove, you will be unsuccessful. You can use any cookware with the conventional gas stovetops because it uses gas and flames to heat the cookware. On the other hand, an induction cooktop uses a different mechanism for heating the cookware. It uses electricity as its power source and creates friction inside the cookware, thus making it hot. In simple words, it uses electromagnetism and hence works only with ferrous metals such as cast iron and stainless steel.

  1. Induction Cooking Is Different-

Induction stoves work on a different mechanism, so many of the cooking techniques you use with the conventional gas stoves  must be avoided. You  must choose the correct settings to maintain a stable temperature. If you set the temperature lower, it will take a lot of time to cook the food.

  1. Placement of Stovetop and Cookware-

Place the stove on a stable, non-metallic surface. Make sure you leave a gap of 3-4 inches around the stove to avoid blockage of air vents. Be careful while placing the cookware on the stovetop. Wipe the cooktop's surface and the bottom of the cookware, and then put the cookware in the heating zone according to the vessel's size and shape. While placing, keep the cookware in the centre zone of a ring drawn on the cooktop's top surface. Place the cookware before switching on the induction to avoid any stray EMF. Keep the stovetop away from objects like TV and radio.

  1. Use the Controls Appropriately-

Different induction stoves have different types of controls according to the brand and model. You can find controls like touch controls, press button controls, or rotating knob control. Turn on the induction cooktop by pressing the ON/OFF button. The other two main buttons are + and – buttons used to increase or decrease the temperature. An LED display is present in the induction stove to give you a visual idea of the temperature and various features turned on. Every induction stovetop comes with a different operating time.

          5.Additional Features

A lot of induction stoves come with pre-set menus. They are set for a pre-defined heat and time for each food. The standard menu options are rice, keep warm, milk, soup, and dosa. This is very convenient for the users as they can select the desired function with a single touch.

        6. Cleaning-

Cleaning induction cooktops is a straightforward task. You need to wipe the surface clean with tissue paper or moist cloth and non-abrasive liquid cleaner. Before cleaning, make sure you switch it off and unplug it.

Using an induction cooktop is easy. It's just that it would take some time to get used to the new technology. Read the guidelines from your appliance's user manual.
