11 Things you Shouldn’t Do if you have Dry Skin

When it comes to dry skin, there’s a whole lot of dos and don'ts you need to know. If you have got skin that looks parched, flaky, dull, and rough, you might have dry skin. One should pay more care and attention to dry skin and ensure not to use generic products as this might be more detrimental to the skin than beneficial. Hence it is important that you meticulously choose the products for your skin and at the same time alter your habits so that they are more conducive to healthy skin.

Things You Shouldn’t Do If You Have Dry Skin

There are a few things that you shouldn’t do if you have a dry skin and some of these are mentioned below.

  • Applying Generic Skincare Products – The convenience of picking up any product from the isles of a supermarket is something that cannot be afforded by people having dry skin. Generic cleansers and toners can strip away the essential oils that hydrate and nourish the skin. Only choose products that have been made for dry skin.
  • Cleansing too frequently – We all love squeaky clean skin, but too much of everything is bad, and that holds true for cleansing too. While it’s imperative to ensure your skin’s pores aren’t clogged with sebum, dirt, dead skin cells, and impurities, make sure that you aren’t overdoing it by cleansing every few hours. Over-cleansing the skin can dry out your skin even further, and that’s something that you wouldn’t desire. Cleaning twice a day and after working out should be sufficient, that too with a cleanser formulated for dry skin.
  • Using too many Skincare Products Containing Fragrances and Preservatives – If you’re using too many skincare products containing fragrances and preservatives, your skin can get irritated and flaky. Try going for fragrance-free and preservative-free products when you can.
  • Using too much hot water or Steam – Hot water showers and steam feel blissful and relaxing, but they aren’t the best for your dry skin. Hot water and steam can strip your skin of its natural oils. Try to use lukewarm water to avoid hurting your delicate skin.
  • Over exfoliating – Exfoliation is necessary, it removes the product build-up, dirt, sebum, dead skin cells, and impurities. However, overdoing it can do more harm than good. Over exfoliating can damage the skin’s barrier, making the skin more susceptible to irritants, pathogens, allergens, and chemicals. Exfoliating once or twice a week should be sufficient to provide the benefits without damaging your skin.
  • Avoiding Facial Treatments – The right kind of facial treatments can lock in hydration and make your skin supple, hydrated, and nourished. VLCC Planktonic Power Essencious Facial and Hydroglacier Therapy facials are those you can incorporate to improve your skin’s texture. The VLCC Planktonic Power Essencious Facial re-mineralizes the skin and locks in hydration for a stronger skin barrier for a soft and supple texture. Secondly, the VLCC Hydroglacier therapy Facial hydrates dry skin and strengthens the skin cells to prevent pre-mature photo-aging, and resist wrinkle formation and loss of elasticity. The experts at VLCC can analyze your skin’s requirements and suggest the best facial for you.
  • Applying moisturizer on dry skin – Dry skin isn’t as absorbent as damp skin; hence moisturizing damp skin ensures that your skin can absorb the moisturizer.
  • Avoiding Sun Protection – Wearing a sunblock with an adequate Sun Protection Factor is essential for people with all skin types, including those who have dry skin.
  • Wiping and Rubbing – If you have dry skin and you wipe and rub your skin to remove excess moisture after showering or washing your face, you can further exacerbate your dry skin. All you need to do is to pat your dry skin gently to prevent aggravating.
  • Not removing makeup adequately – You must remove your makeup as it can lead to clogging of the pores of the skin, causing acne and inflammation. Use appropriate products to remove makeup to ensure that your skin is fresh and clean.
  • Not moisturizing your hands and lips – If you have dry skin, ensure that you are moisturizing your hands with hand cream and lips with lip balm so that they don’t get cracked, flaky, and dull either.

Taking care of dry skin is hard, but the repercussions of not taking care of your skin are worse. You need to ensure that your skincare routine is suitable for your skin type, the facials that you are choosing are appropriate for your skin, and the habits in your day-to-day life aren’t drying your skin out further. VLCC’s experts can help you with the facial that would suit your skin, facial price, and facial treatments that would improve the elasticity, texture, luminosity, and radiance of your skin.
